PB, Banana, Bacon Dog Treats
Peanut Butter, Banana, Bacon Dog Treats, simple homemade dog treats your dog will love!
I know, I know, I can relate everything to a Nicecream flavor… But, this one is really fun! Last spring we were trying to come up with new bacon flavor, we had had Chocolate Covered Bacon and Salted Caramel Bacon, but we wanted something new. I remembered the PB, Banana, Bacon combo, it is famous for being Elvis’s favorite sandwich. And thus, “The Elvis” Nicecream flavor was born. It is a flavor you really have to commit to and you have to be a little adventurous. If you are a “vanilla” person, aka. you order “just vanilla” at the ice cream shop (not that there’s anything wrong with that) this is probably not the flavor for you. But, if you like a little culinary adventure, it is a great choice!
I like to pull this combo out whenever I have the opportunity, you will most definitely see it on the blog again in a human food capacity π Since it was Valentine’s Day on Sunday I wanted to make Layla some heart-shaped treats (read: I wanted an excuse to bake, even though I’m not eating sweets). She has the most delicate stomach, we tried a little yogurt this weekend and paid for it the next day (yuck, I know). So when I was thinking about a new treat recipe I realized that peanut butter, bananas and bacon are on her a-okay food list. Especially once these things are baked they do not seem to bother her stomach. So… I give you “The Elvis” Dog Treats!

- Preheat oven to 325 degrees

- Mix vigorously until peanut butter is combined
- Add flour, baking powder and oats
- Mix until fully incorporated (dough will be tough so you may have to use your hands)
- Crumble bacon into small pieces and add to dough
- Once dough has formed a ball, use a rolling pin to roll dough into 1/4 inch thickness
- Cut out treats with cookie cutters or a knife
- Bake for 25 minutes
- Cool and store in a cool, dry place up to 1 week or freeze up to 2 months
The last time I made dog treats I froze 1/2 and still some went bad before Layla could eat them all. I highly suggest freezing your treats (here I go with the freezing again…) so you don’t lose any due to spoilage. Without freezing they will only last 5-7 days. Layla likes them just as much straight out of the freezer!
