Description
Surprise your pup with this Peanut Butter Bacon Dog Birthday Cake! A single layer peanut butter bacon cake topped with a whipped peanut butter cream cheese frosting and finished off with a pile of bacon crumbles!
Ingredients
Bacon
4 slices bacon
Cake
1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
2 large eggs
1/4 cup whole milk
2 tbsp rendered bacon grease
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking powder
2 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
Frosting
2oz cream cheese
2 tbsp creamy peanut butter
1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
Toppings
2 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
Bacon
Heat a skillet on the stovetop over medium-low heat
Add the 4 slices of bacon, cook until bacon is crispy
Set bacon aside on a paper towel
Reserve the rendered grease in a heat safe bowl
Cake
Preheat oven to 350°F
In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with blade attachment, beat together the yogurt and peanut butter until smooth
Add eggs 1 at a time, beat
Add the milk and bacon grease, mix
In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder
Slowly add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mix until combined
Fold in the bacon pieces
Grease a 6-inch cake pan with cooking spray
Spoon the cake batter into the pan
Put cake in oven to bake for 20-25 minutes, cake is done when the middle is set and a knife comes out clean when inserted in the center
Cool cake for 5 minutes in the pan and then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely
Frosting
In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a whisk attachment add the cream cheese and peanut butter, whisk on high until smooth
Add the heavy cream, beat until frosting becomes light and fluffy
Spread the frosting in a generous layer on top of the cooled cake, leaving the sides bare
Put the bacon pieces in the center of the cake in a pile
Sprinkle with sprinkles, if desired
Slice and serve
Notes
The ingredients in this cake are dog friendly, however some dogs may have allergies and intolerances to specific foods making it not a safe choice for them. It is also advised that your dog not consume the whole cake in one sitting!
