Blueberry Birthday Pupcakes – Cupcakes for Dogs!
Celebrate your pup with these homemade Blueberry Birthday Pupcakes – cupcakes for dogs! These whole wheat blueberry cupcakes with blueberry cream cheese frosting are the perfect special treat for the dog in your life!
Yesterday was Layla’s 4th birthday! If you are new around here then you may not know that we take dog birthdays pretty seriously around here 🙂 Want proof? You can check out her first, second and third birthday posts here!
What are dog cupcakes made of and are they good for my dog?
Like humans, some dogs have allergies or aversions to certain ingredients, but assuming your dog is allergy free all of the ingredients in these pupcakes are dog friendly!
whole wheat flour – a good source of fiber
baking powder – necessary for the cupcakes to rise
coconut oil – good for dogs skin and coat
greek yogurt – probiotics are good for dogs gut health
eggs – a good source of protein
blueberries – filled with healthy antioxidants and fiber
All in all these dog cupcakes are a healthy treat for your pup!
The frosting is not so healthy, it’s made with cream cheese, which is not really good for humans or dogs, but it is fine in moderation. And the dogs love it!
Note: If you are concerned about the cream cheese you can substitute it with greek yogurt, the frosting will be too thin to pipe, but you can spread it onto the cupcakes.
3 Reasons to Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday
- They love you unconditionally – that at least deserves a pupcake, right?
- Their lives are short, we should really be celebrating their birthday 7 times per year, but since we only do it once we should make it a good one!
- It’s adorable – dogs in birthday hats eating pupcakes will make you smile, I promise

Patiently waiting for the pupcake to drop… I didn’t manage to get any good pictures of her with the pupcakes or actually eating them because she basically swallowed them whole… I take that as a compliment to the chef!
To our little Layla – you are a princess and we love you to the moon and back. You deserve all the treats and snuggles!

pin it for later:
how much blueberries do you add to the cake part of the recipe & to the frosting? i’m confused if halved means cut the blueberries in half? or if you mean ‘divided’ as in 1/2 c in cake mixture & 1/2 a cup in frosting…could you please add blueberry measurements to the directions? thanks, Jodi
Hi Jodi!
Sorry if the recipe is not clear! The ingredient list is broken up between the cupcakes and the frosting. The frosting calls for 1/2 cup of blueberries (you can use them whole, they will break up in the mixer). The cupcake recipe calls for 1 full cup of blueberries that are cut in half.
Hi, I googled it and baking powder can cause serious gastrointestinal problems for dogs including spasms, seizures, and Heart problems
Are you sure about baking powder?
Hi Harley – thanks for your concern. According to my sources, once the baking powder is baked the active ingredients are “used up” and it’s no longer harmful to dogs. Additionally, even in raw form, baking powder is only harmful to dogs when ingested in large quantities. My dog has had these treats many times and has never had an issue. That being said, every dog is different and some dogs may have intolerances or allergies that other dogs do not (just like humans).
My pups loved tHese!! Thanks for the recipe, I’ll be making these eVery biRthday to come!

HAve you tried this recipe in a small 6in cake form? Of do you have ay advice?
Have you tried this recipe for a 6in cake? Any tips?
I have not, I think you would have enough batter for 2 6-inch layers and you would need to increase the baking time.
Hi! I made this recipe for my dog and he absolutely loved it, thank you! But i was wondering how i should store the leftover pupcakes?
