10 Minute Beer Cheese Dip
The perfect party dip, this 10 Minute Beer Cheese Dip is rich and cheesy and comes together in less than 10 minutes!
As always, Walter, Layla and I will be trekking up to CT this weekend for Christmas with my family and I can’t wait! Christmas is the best, everyone slows down and enjoys quality time and great food, two of my favorite things 🙂
We don’t really have any set menus for Christmas, you know how some people always have (fill in the blank). That’s not us, we are always changing things up, especially for Christmas Eve. This year for Christmas Eve we are doing “heavy apps”, which is music to my ears. I live for appetizers, a little bit of this, a little bit of that 🙂
It was perfect because it gave me an excuse to come up with a fantastic appetizer idea to share with you! This 10 Minute Beer and Cheese Dip is a must make! Other than the fact that beer cheese is the ultimate in indulgent, deliciousness it also only takes 10 minutes to make! No slaving away in the kitchen, more time spent enjoying company!
You can make this dip right before your guests arrive or even after they have arrived if you have everything ready to go!
Tools wise, all you need is a sauté pan, whisk and wooden spoon. Make sure you have them handy, it sounds silly but this dip cooks quickly and the wooden spoon and whisk are key to making sure you get it right!
One note about the beer before we dive in to how to make the dip. I suggest using an IPA, you want to be able to taste the flavor of the beer in the dip and IPAs offer a richer flavor that will stick with this dip. I used this IPA from Port City Brewing Co. and it was perfect!
You will start by making a roux with butter, flour and heavy cream. Once that comes together you add the beer, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika and salt. The last step is to melt in the sharp cheddar cheese and then bring it to a low boil.
To serve, transfer it to a heat safe serving bowl. This is where things get optional and you get to make the dip “you”. I decided to top it with crumbled chorizo, green onions and a dash of smoked paprika. But you do you, toppings are totally optional.
As for the “dippers” I went with a pretzel themed, because beer cheese just screams pretzels, right? Soft pretzel bites, soft pretzel rolls, pretzel sticks, pretzel slims, pretzel EVERYTHING! But again, you can chose whatever “dippers” suit you.
