Gender Neutral Elephant Nursery
A peek inside Wyatt’s Gender Neutral Elephant Nursery featuring a simple modern design with grey neutrals and pops of elephant decor.
Now that Baby Wyatt has made his arrival, I’m sharing a peek inside his Gender Neutral Elephant Nursery!
If you know me, you know I have a deep love for all things elephant! Regardless of if Wyatt was a boy or a girl, one thing was for sure, the nursery was going to be elephant themed!
I’m a big believer in designing a nursery to your own taste, you will be spending a lot of time in there feeding, changing and soothing, so why not make it a nice place you love hanging out! Later on you won’t have as much of a say in your kid’s room decor, so why not take advantage now!
Designing the nursery was one of my favorite parts of pregnancy! I actually had everything already picked out before we ended up moving in late July. The room that would have been the nursery in our townhouse was actually larger than his nursery in the new house, but for the most part I just transferred the vision from one house to the other!
Below I am linking to everything we used to achieve a simple, modern design with grey neutrals and pops of elephant decor! I do have to say a special thank you to our family and friends who generously gifted us many of the things you see below!
Babyletto Crib: I knew I wanted a neutral color for the crib and I was gravitating towards cribs with a modern aesthetic. This Babyletto Hudson 3-in-1 Convertible Crib in Washed Neutral checked all the boxes!
Newton Baby Crib Mattress: We went with the Newton Mattress which is very popular these days because it is a breathable mattress and 100% machine washable, making it a very safe and practical choice.
Elephant Sheets: These elephant watercolor sheets work so well with the nursery decor because obviously they fit the theme, but the elephant design is subtle and the color is neutral.
Wallpaper: The room the nursery is in is the smallest room in the house and also has limited light from just 1 small window. This is great for nap time, but I wanted to brighten up the room as much as possible so I chose a bright white color for the paint on the walls. Since the white is so simple and plain I wanted to liven it up a bit with wallpaper on just the crib wall. The wallpaper is called “Pick-Up-Sticks” and it’s Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines sold at Home Depot. I got it in black and I love how the modern, herringbone pattern adds a little extra character to the room!
Elephant Rug: One of my first purchases was this adorable elephant rug from Etsy. It’s really soft, super cute and fills the small space nicely. Again, I love how it adds to the elephant theme without being too child-like.
Elephant Hamper: I’ve actually had this hamper for years and I’m not sure where I got it, but I found a similar one on Etsy that is linked here.
Rocking Chair: This Sleepytime Rocking Chair from Wayfair by Nursery Works is modern and sleek. I love the aesthetic, but I was a little worried it may not be as comfortable as a larger glider, however I find it very comfortable for nursing and I think it’s the perfect choice for a small space!
Hold Me A Little Longer Print: All 3 prints in the nursery I purchased from Etsy as a downloadable file. The download gives you multiple sizes so I chose the size I wanted and printed them through Fedex printing service. I then framed them using these gold frames.
Hanging Wall Shelves: These shelves are actually spice racks! I saw something similar on Etsy that were about 4 times as expensive… I got to searching and came across these, they look almost identical and serve the same purpose. I wanted to display some books and tiny newborn outfits and these racks worked perfectly! The direction you mount them determines if they will work as a book shelf or a clothes hanger.
Elephant Head Wall Hanger: Another small, neutral elephant decor piece that fits the aesthetic without being too cutesy.
Elephant Bubble Gum Print: All 3 prints in the nursery I purchased from Etsy as a downloadable file. The download gives you multiple sizes so I chose the size I wanted and printed them through Fedex printing service. I then framed them using these gold frames. This is technically the other “gendered” decor in the nursery, you can also purchase it with pink bubble gum.
Fan: I fell in love with this fan in the early planning stages, but it was sold out FOREVER, we almost went with something else and at the last minute it came back in stock! I’m so glad we went with a fan (we were considering just getting a light fixture) because Wyatt is already fascinated by watching it spin round and round. Currently it is sold out again, but you can add your name to the watchlist so you get emailed whenever it comes back in stock.
Elephant Mobile: It took me forever to find a mobile I liked. A lot of the ones I found were clunky looking and had a lot going on. I love the simplicity of this one and how it fits the theme, but in a subtle way. I’ve linked to it here, but unfortunately it’s currently unavailable.
Dream Big Little One Print: All 3 prints in the nursery I purchased from Etsy as a downloadable file. The download gives you multiple sizes so I chose the size I wanted and printed them through Fedex printing service. I then framed them using these gold frames.
Plush Elephant Rocker: This rocker from Pottery Barn Kids is so cute! I cannot wait until Wyatt is big enough to actually ride on and play with it!
Gold Mirror: The mirror above the changing table is a brass finished 32″ mirror from Target. I do not suggest ordering this mirror for delivery! I had it delivered twice and both times it arrived completely shattered! Finally I got smart and ordered it for in-store pick-up. It was a bit of a headache, but I love the way it completes that wall in the nursery.
Dresser: This Cotton Candy 3 Drawer Combo Dresser with Cubbies by South Shore is another Wayfair purchase. Rather than buy a traditional changing table, we are just using the top of it as a changing station. This way we can easily repurpose the dresser in the future. I will say, it is a little smaller than I anticipated, however it is the perfect size for what we can fit in the space. It’s nice quality and I love that it comes with the woven cubby baskets!
Custom Embryo Watercolor: There are a lot of hard things that come with infertility and the IVF process, but it is also really incredible what science can do. Because of the process of IVF we got a picture of Wyatt as a teeny, tiny embryo! We sent that photo to a woman from Etsy that paints embryo watercolors with our choice of colors, a quote, and the date of his embryo transfer. It now hangs in his room as a daily reminder of what a miracle and blessing he is!

Once Wyatt was born and we started actually using the nursery we found that we needed a little more storage, so we added this little book shelf and a cube organizer for the closet. We also added this gold side table for next to the rocker.
