Last Friday night we went out to dinner with our friends Desiree & Andre and Rachel & Alex. Desiree, Rachel and I used to work together and last year we realized our significant others all have birthdays in December! We decided to treat them to dinner as a joint birthday celebration, we had so much fun we decided to continue the tradition!

This year we decided on Virtue Feed & Grain in Old Town, Alexandria. It is right off of King Street all the way down by the water – a beautiful location! Walter and I recommended it because we had eaten there a few months ago when my cousin and her fiancé were in town. The menu is pretty reasonably priced and although it isn’t huge they offer a variety of options – something for everyone!

We started off the meal by splitting the Blue Corn Nachos. The chips were topped with ropa vieja chicken, pepperjack cheese and pico de gallo – we cleared the plate!

Rachel and I both wanted to try out the street tacos, so we decided to share the Fresh Caught Fish and Grilled Flank Steak. Both were tasty, but we agreed that the steak won out over the fish. The steak was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. We were anticipating that the fish would be grilled, but it was breaded and lightly fried. The tacos were served with a side of rice and beans.

Walter is a big duck fan, pretty much whenever it is on the menu he will order it, so he had the Duck Confit Pasta. I stole a bite and it was quite tasty! The rest of the crew opted for a burger and everyone was happy with their choice 🙂

Once we finished eating they brought out a large sundae with a candle so we could sing happy birthday to the boys! By that point we were all pretty full so we had trouble finishing the sundae, but it was a fun ending to the meal.
