An Exciting Announcement!
Guess what!?
I’m taking this little blog and my freelance photography business FULL TIME staring in June!
I could not be more excited to be making this leap and taking on the new challenges of being a self-employed solopreneur! If you have been following along from the very beginning you know that when this blog started it was far from a business and really just a fun hobby. I started it in late 2015 knowing that people did, in fact make money from blogging, but having no real idea of how.
Since then so much has changed. My blog went through a total rebrand and the blogging industry has exploded and continues to change with every passing day. Due to saturation in the market, as well as my unwillingness to really niche down on the topic I blog about, I don’t know that I will ever grow this blog to a point where it, on it’s own, would be able to sustain me in a full time capacity (from ads and sponsored work).
The reality is, most bloggers you see blogging full time have many, many different income streams that they have leveraged into a full time business. Over the years I have focused on growing and developing my food photography skills to a point where now I have been able to add more arms to my business. I offer freelance food photography services to restaurants, brands and other bloggers. Food photography is really what has allowed me to get to a point where I am able to go off on my own and pursue this as a full time career.
I have completely fallen in love with food photography and food styling over my years of blogging. In the beginning, I was doing it because I knew in order to “make it” as a blogger you needed great photography. But as time went on, I started to dive in deeper because I truly found a passion for it. Over the next few months I will be working on another arm of my business which will be offering food photography and styling workshops and education for other bloggers and small business owners!
The path I’ve taken to get here has been winding and I, like most entrepreneurs, am afraid of it failing. But if I don’t do this right now, maybe I never will and for me that is an even scarier thought.
Today is my last day at my full time job. It is bittersweet as I have a lot of love for the people and the company I worked for. Time was ultimately the limiting factor that pushed me to need to make the switch because I felt like I did not have enough time to continue doing both things well.
I have big dreams for myself and this business, but I would not be here without my support system. Tonight I am heading to Ireland on a family trip with Walter, my Mom, Dad, Brothers, Sister-in-law and Nephew. It’s a much needed vacation that we have been looking forward to for a long time. I feel so blessed to have a family that supports me every single day and I couldn’t think of a better way to kick off my new adventure than spending quality time exploring with them!
It will be quiet here over the next 2 weeks, but you can look forward to seeing a lot more of me come June! If you want to see what we are up to in Ireland I will be posting some highlights to Instagram Stories so you can follow along there!
CONGRATULATIONS, laura. i don’t know much about blogging, but i know that you are smart and creative and will do what it takes to make this new expanded venture a great success!
Thank you so much!
